Super-T Girders

The SCI Super-T bridge girder is now firmly established in NSW as providing bridging solutions in a fast, safe and economical manner to many road bridges now for over 18 years. The Super-T is a fully pretensioned, prestressed, precast concrete bridge girder which incorporates the combination of the structural function of a box girder with permanent formwork in the deck.

Girder geometry and cross section dimensions have been agreed and standardised with the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW Chief Bridge Design Engineer, (CBE Circular 98/5) and adopted by AUSTROADS in 2004. Use of standardised sections will result in minimum cost solutions.

Five standard girder depths are available to designers in 750, 1000, 1200, 1500 and 1800 mm deep sections for a wide variety of top widths. Super-Ts are available in open (OTST) or closed (CTST) top geometrics. The choice between using open or closed top Super-Ts is dependent upon deck geometry, number of spans and variability of span within a bridge. Open top tees are cost effective where standard internal forms of modular length can be utilised. Please check with SCI early in the design phase for the most suitable approach in a particular design.
