Port Botany Expansion
Located 12 nautical miles south of the entrance to Sydney Harbour the facilities at Port Botany now account for over 70 percent of Sydney Ports Corporations total trade throughput
Driven by consumer and business demand, trade is steadily increasing through the ports of Sydney. To ensure ongoing economic growth for NSW, Sydney Ports is currently expanding the existing container terminal facilities.
The expansion includes 1,850 metres of additional wharf face for five extra shipping berths. SCI was contracted in 2009 by Baulderstone to supply 192 No, 45-tonne precast wharf coping beam elements that will act structurally composite with the concrete wharf deck structure. All cope beams are geometrically extremely complex and the concrete technology for concrete used in the cope beams is the most stringent and regulated for Classification C durability exposure that SCI has yet encountered.
All precast elements were manufactured over a period if five months.
